Idol Horse needed a platform that could serve a truly global audience of passionate horse racing fans. The vision was ambitious: a trilingual content hub combining world-class journalism, a comprehensive racing calendar, and an interactive community ranking system — all running seamlessly across English, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese.
We engineered a custom WordPress architecture from the ground up, building bespoke post types, a real-time ranking engine, and a gamification layer that keeps users coming back. The result is a platform that has grown to over 800,000 monthly active users in its first year.
Serving content in English, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese simultaneously — with shared data structures, synced rankings, and language-specific editorial workflows. Every piece of content needs to work across all three languages without duplication or data drift.
Building a platform that doesn't just publish content but creates a community. Users needed profiles, gamification, points systems, unlockable avatars, and meaningful ways to interact — turning passive readers into active, returning participants.

The Idol Horse Rankings are the centrepiece of the platform — a system designed to establish genuine authority in the horse racing world by combining expert knowledge with community passion.
A panel of four racing experts scores horses from 1-10, scaled to a maximum of 50 points. Registered fans cast their own votes through a drag-and-drop interface, also scaled to 50. The combined 50/50 split produces a score out of 100, recalculated hourly via automated cron jobs.
